Stomach Ache

Posted in Personal, Story, Stupid on June 2, 2009 by Matthew

This morning I was awaken at 5:30 with a bad stomach ache. It was back and forth with the bathroom for me. It finally settled down at about 6:20 AM. I could not sleep though, it was tough. I think I fell asleep at about 7:30 AM but was woken up an hour later by my alarm. As soon as I woke up, I was hurting all over >_< I had to call in sick, I could not work with a bad stomach and little to no sleep. Not anymore, though I used to thrive on little sleep. Getting older sure made a difference in the hours needed to rest.

There could only be one culprit as to why my stomach was feeling that bad, and my suspect was food I ate last night. I ate dinner pretty late. About 9:45 PM I would say. Not only that, I ate Har Mee. Spicy prawns instant noodle. I don’t think that was what really set everything off this morning. I believe it’s the fact that after eating all of that, I barely drank any liquid after that. No water that’s for sure and my stomach just couldn’t take it. Thinking about it at this moment makes my stomach a little quizy.

Here’s advice for those out there who loves spicy food, don’t eat it late at night and definitely do not forget to drink plenty of liquid. Water would be best I would think. I have learned my lesson… no more double packet Har Mee instant noodle without water late at night.

Anyone knows when The Office will be back? If you don’t already know, I’m a big dork when it comes to The Office. Can’t say I remember everything, but I’ve watched all the episodes. I think it’s the only TV series out there that I’ve watched every episode of, besides anime (if you consider that TV series).

I’m A PC, and I’m A Mac… and I’m Stupid

Posted in Stupid, Technology on October 14, 2008 by Matthew

I have been writing online for a long time, about seven or eight years ago, but I only recently talk about things that deals with others and things around me. Most of the time, it’s a little personal journal that I don’t mind sharing with those willing to read, but now, it’s about things that are less superficial and more substantial (well, for some cases, cause I still do talk about myself quite a lot). Today is about the commercial PC vs Mac. Let me redefine society’s view on PC… Windows… O_O WHAT?!?!?!? This came about when I’ve been studying and I have the TV going on in the background, cause I’m pulling an all-nighter. So, here I am, taking a break and blogging, how typical of me ^_^

I am truly saddened by the fact that languages with lingos or bingos or even slang changes the meaning of a word. It wasn’t long ago I was a high school kid, and when I was a high school kid, PC was a PC, not the equivalent of Windows. PC stands for Personal Computer. This is just a shorter form of saying I have a computer. People would rather say “I have a PC.” in comparison to “I have a computer.” Maybe not everyone, but I would bet people would rather use the term PC than saying the word computer. Since when have we, the people, given Windows the higher standard of being a personal computer. Mac started this commercial, and personally, I didn’t think it was technically correct to begin with (which irates me), but I let it slide… until everyone started using that one same word. Mac, you have given me a reason not to like you, especially the people who thought up of the stupid marketing idea. Well, it was funny to be completely honest, but the term PC does not belong to Windows and I for one am definitely not happy for that fact.

I still use Windows as Windows and Mac and Mac. I some times slip in PC for Windows because of the people I talk with, but I catch my mistake and I correct myself most of the time. If I don’t, I give you the permission to correct me, because I deserve to be told I’m incorrect. PC (persona computer) as a term needs to bring back to society as something anyone and everyone that owns a computer can and should use. I have two PCs: My MacbookPro and my Dell Desktop. Guess what, I use both Windows XP and Mac OS X. Sadly, I have not gotten myself into Linux much, so I’ll stay out of it for now, unless someone gives me their old laptop to play with and install Linux on it ^_^

Please, give back the PC term to any computer and to the real meaning of personal computer. If you’re using a desktop, laptop, nettop, netbook, tablet PC, mobile PC, pocket PC, or whatever that has an OS (operating system) in it that works like a computer, as a personal computer (for your own use), then it’s a PC. Not PC == Windows. This is how it goes, Windows and Macs are PCs but PCs are not Windows or Macs. Simple? Got it? Good, that’s all you need to know.

This topic goes hand in hand with the term “CPU” as a pointer to the “CPU tower.” CPU is Central Processing Unit, not the tower itself. So, when someone ask you about your desktop, know that the essential items that make up a desktop are: a keyboard, a mouse, a monitor, and a tower. Your tower is your skull, your monitor is your eyes while keyboard and mouse are the hands and feet. Your skull is not the brain, neither is your tower, but you could consider the CPU as the brain. Got it? Good. I’m done telling people they’ve been taught wrongly, because at any time, you could easily research anything online. Wikipedia is a good source, even if it’s by people, because they’re also corrected by people and therefore, the most correct is usually left alone, unless there’s a funny fella who just feels like their right all the time and they disagree with what was written, that or if they just want to be annoying and thinks they’re funny.

If you ever hear me or see me announce PC as Windows and strictly Windows and not Mac, please, I welcome you to call me stupid and tell me where I have made that mistake, because we all need people around us to remind me, and I for one needs that more than anyone (I tend to forget things easily and very quickly).

As far the commercial for Windows trying to bring their image up, I think they should have corrected the term PC to Windows. That would definitely make them a lot smarter, especially for people like me who wants the right terms to be used correctly. I leave you with this:

English teacher teaches English for a reason, math teacher teaches math for a reason. If you ever get an English teacher to teach math and a math teacher to teach English, you might get very confusing students, or worse, students learning the wrong facts.

My First Video… Shutdown by WordPress

Posted in Funny, Stupid on March 6, 2008 by Matthew

I actually did my first video ever, and I’m about to share it with you, my readers. I had to make a 30 seconds commercial video and I decided to go with this ingenious idea.

…30 minutes later…

Incidentally, I did not know wordpress.com will not allow me to embed my .mov file even if the file isn’t hosted by WordPress >_< This is really upsetting. As long as WordPress does not allow me (or any bloggers) to just embed a video, somehow, I foresee my blog moving… again :’( which might I add: very sad. I thought I could finally settle down because I love the WordPress interface. I suppose it’ll be alright for me to just continue the same blog, but just redirect the URL.

Sadly, I’m not really up to uploading  videos on youtube just yet. It’s perhaps the easiest way, but I don’t know… it’s just… my video is for a project purpose, and I will need to have my talents’ consent to put their images out there (youtube does have a lot more viewers than my blog after all), and of course I’m using another product and not my own, so I don’t really want to get in trouble. Of course I’m just doing this for project, so it’s for school purpose, so I won’t get in trouble, because I have fair use on my side. There’s also if I put it here, I can have a disclaimer or something to write under it but on youtube, it’s just the video. Yes there’s descriptions, but you know how many videos out there are the same exact videos and just copied and uploaded by another? Not that my video is that great, but I’d rather just be careful than careless. There I go again, just yapping and yapping…

Well, I’ll probably give in and upload the video to youtube, but until then, I guess you all just have to be patient until I find a solution.

Games and Politics

Posted in Culture, Games, Life, Stupid on March 4, 2008 by Matthew

Tonight’s post is really about the idiocy of society and my passion as a gamer to stand up for games… not people. I am writing about the world at our finest after all [insert sarcastic smirk here]. See, I cannot sit quietly when someone starts blaming video games for their violent actions (in fact, I get into heated debates with friends every now and then). I’ve read quite a few articles about politics and video games. Maybe I’m getting my facts from all the wrong places. Personally, I think it is naive of some politicians to think that gamers suck at life (to make it an easy understanding to many of us gamers) [please insert another sarcastic smirk here... and this time, make it a BIG one].

*Side note: I’m not stating who I support in this presidential election, in fact, I think some of you know why.

With so many trying to bring down video games, it’s sad to see how the twinkie defense could have hold up. Here’s where our sense of humor take it to the next level >_< Why is it that no one has straight out say “I threw the metal sink right at his head thinking he would use the force and hold it back.”? Why is it video games causes violence when we have movies such as Saw I, II, III, and IV out there as great films? You know I make a good point, and to state more, I am a gamer. Yes, my common sense to one-is-greater-than-or-equal-to mathematical equations is better than an average college student. I say this is due to the many games I play. The skill in collecting information through others’ knowledge have brought me far. This skill would never be available if I never played games. Yes, I thank games for this. Most definitely I will stand in defense that I do not play games a majority of the time I’m awake. Everyone knows (okay okay, everyone should know) that it’s unhealthy to over-excess on one thing.

You read, you watch tv, you sleep, you socialize, you study… all these are things needed in a healthy relationship with one’s own body, mind, and soul. I would go so far as to say your spirit is just as important (if not, more), so keeping with religion or faith. Why should a parent stop a kid from watching tv or playing games if it did indeed help to a healthy person? I’m studying in Digital Media and I’m encouraged to go to the theaters and watch at least one movie a week (and even by that standard isn’t considered enough to show me learning about Digital Media). There needs to be a balance, and there needs to be script writers, producers, or directors. Just like how there needs to be trash collectors, hair dressers, street cleaners, farmers. I wouldn’t consider people doing the dirtier job less fortunate or less intelligent. I’d rather call them smart for keeping society on-going. Can you imagine if no one ever became trash collectors. Yup, there goes our front yard, it’ll always be smelly.

So, presidents (or candidates for presidency), next time you say something to get people to vote for you, I think you should think about some of us who actually use our brains to think about what you say (yup, I do have a brain and I use it and I am a proud owner of a PS3 and I play games on it). Think about the people who are working under you. What about those under the people who are under the people who are under the people who are under you? Yea, think about them too. The bagel maker, the maids who clean your office, the person who puts in toilet rolls when it’s out in the White House. (For some reason, I have this suspicion of someone having the job to just clean the bathroom and it’s not the “higher class” people doing it). I also think that I shouldn’t direct questions or statements to presidents (or candidates for presidency) directly. So… I follow on with the statement of: For everyone out there who are fortunate to be blessed in many ways (financial to be specific), think about the other people who you interact with that do good for you even though you don’t realize it.

There you have it, a good midnight rant from games and the idiocy of society blaming on games to uh… the smartness of a gamer… ME ^_^

PS. A friend told me he didn’t want to blog for everyone to read because he didn’t want to seem like he’s an ass (pardon my language here, I think he literally meant donkey (in my defense :P )) or brag about certain things. Well, that last statement about me being a smart gamer, that’s me bragging right there. I’m showing that it’s okay to brag once in a while. I don’t think he really reads my blog; don’t think he knows my URL.

Syncing Disaster

Posted in Stupid, Technology on January 10, 2008 by Matthew

Technology has done me good for the pass 22 years (23 years in a little over a month). I never had monstrous disaster happening to me when it comes to my personal computers, my game systems, my laptop, or my iPod. I never had anything happen in such a large scale that I would be upset at myself.

“There’s a first time in everything.”
~Some genius

I cannot source that quote, because I do not know who started that quote; but it happened today, for the first time. The first monstrous bo-bo I’ve ever made. The intelligent part of me is still trying to comprehend the stupidity of my action.  This is definitely a “MY BAD” I’ve made, and it’s a real bad thing I’ve done to myself. I will have to make this a ‘Stupid’ action category.

I have accidentally wiped every single song, podcast, video, you-name-it from my 80Gb iPod. Now, usually if it was just regular things I have in there, I wouldn’t be too upset about it. Here’s the deal with my iPod though. I’ve filled it with over 9,000 songs (approximately 40Gb worth). The videos, I’m not too concern about, the podcast, I suppose it’s not too important either. It’s  really the songs. It’s from my travels that I’ve accumulated these songs. No, I do not own them all personally, and many of them are probably copies, but it those songs that kept me from listening to the same ones over and over again.

How did I do it? Would be the big question everyone would ask, and here’s a simple answer. Without thinking, I accidentally synced up my iPod to my iTunes (which was actually on manual). Usually that’s not a big problem too, because my iTunes should have songs. Think again buddy. I have just recently wiped my iTunes from all the songs (to create space for my current classes) and backed it up onto my external hard disk. I do not have all 9,000 songs on my external; I have about 1700 or so songs in it. Like I said earlier, a majority of my songs are put into my iPod in my travels (about 7,000 are from Malaysia alone).

I honestly could have made this post a lot shorter, but please be patient with my ramblings  in this entry. I am still a little amazed at this amazing feat I was able to accomplish. I’ll start my iPod again, restart it from the 0 songs if first started off with and adding it to make it mine. I don’t think I could accomplish 9,000+ songs, but I’ll be trying to get there again. Thanks for reading!
