League of Legends – The Beta Test

Posted in Games, Hobby on August 29, 2009 by Matthew

If you’ve been following me from a long time ago, you know I wrote a little about League of Legends (LoL). If you haven’t, here’s the link to it, and it’s a very short post.

Thursday night, I was happy to say I got my desktop running and installed LoL on it. It was just the beta, but I pre-ordered the game already. It definitely has the feel of Defense of the Ancient (DotA) map in WarCraft 3. LoL is its own game and I am very glad they did it. It should have its own title. Not only is it competitive, but also fun. It definitely brings a whole level of teamwork. I do wish that it would play on a Mac though, cause I have my laptop everywhere I go and there are times I crave that game… already.

I only played it once, so don’t take my word for it, but I was convinced that I would enjoy the game and pre-ordered the game. That was how I was able to play beta, I wasn’t really invited into it, though it would be nice (my cousin did though). Nevertheless, my first play in a test server game was nothing more than an enjoyable one. It was even better after my team won ^_^ I played Ashe, a ranger. She reminded me of Drow Ranger in DotA.

Into a short analysis of the game. The first thing that caught me was that it’s beautiful. The color and the look was just stunning and gave a new feel for such a game (that I don’t think was ever created before). I couldn’t be more please with the gameplay. It took a little to get used to the keyboard shortcuts, but after a while, it was really easy. I never needed to move my hand (left hand) on the keyboard away from the home row. It also took me a little while to get used to the fact that my hero was always selected. For strategy games, it is very normal to be able to deselect, only because you usually control more than one hero. In this sense, it’s almost like an MMO, action, or an adventure game where you’re only controlling one person. I am unsure about the tree stats and certain extra things added for heroes when your sorcerer levels up, but things like that brings longevity to a game that just sits there. In this sense, it makes each hero different. I could have the same items and same hero as another person on the team, but because of the different runes we use, our hero will end up with different results and different stats. I could have runes that only up my hp and mana and their regen while the other player could use runes that brings up their damage and attack speed and defense. This definitely brings about the competitiveness of the game and also the different outcome of a game that could happen.

The battle was only 20 minutes. Which was a good time frame. After reading the forums a little, it looked like the time frame could go up as long as an hour, depending on how well each team plays of course. Seeing this, I would recommend people trying out the beta first before purchasing the game. If you’re already into DotA and wish for a new look and feel and play, I say get this game and play both. I stopped playing DotA because the fact that people quitting the game (regardless of being banned or not) just keeps happening and it got very tired.

Regardless, if you are interested in the beta, I do have one available beta request left. If you are interested (after checking out their site) and would like to try it or get an invitation, you are welcome to leave your e-mail address in a comment to this post. Just for a heads up, your e-mail will be publicly known and that is at your own risk. I will also need you to write why you want an invite and who would be your first hero of choice. This is so I won’t be giving invite to some random anonymous person who doesn’t know anything about the game at all. At least I would know why you want it and who you would play. First come first serve, that’s it. Sorry I only have one. I had 2, but the second one was already given out and I only had 3. First one was already given out to a friend.

Once again, check out League of Legends website, created by Riot Games.

3 Day Weekend – 4th of July

Posted in Family, Hobby, Life, Personal on July 3, 2009 by Matthew

Today starts the 3-day weekend. What that really means is just one extra day of relaxing and doing nothing before I go back to work. I have to seriously find something productive to do besides playing games, reading manga, and watching anime after I get home from working… and then today happened. I cleaned a little, play a little, and cooked a little. I did cook for dinner, but those were from packets of things that are pre-made. Today, I actually cooked… and I forgot the joy of cooking. It was one of the few things that I dislike when forced to do but enjoyed when I was able to do it the way I chose to. Today’s cooking was fried chicken, rice, and green beans. My sister prepared the rice and prepared the chicken and sauces for the green beans. I was able to actually cook the green beans, which was a good feeling. Tonight, I had a good dinner and it felt right. I think I could cook for my family when I have one, but of course having to drive home and leaving at 6pm, I’m not sure when dinner could be or when I’d get home. I’ll probably be living pretty close to work, or I won’t be cooking as much >_< Such a sad thought.

On a better note, the pass 2 week, I’ve not really been productive with all the passive things I said I’ve been doing. Now, I actually have some projects to do. What it is at the moment is still not being told. It’s a hush hush topic and it will be good once it’s done… hopefully. Oh yea, it’s 4th of July and it’s Independence day for America. I can’t really say “Happy” in the front of it. I mean, it obviously is happy because of being independent, but did you know what the people in America had to go through to become independent. It’s definitely something. Well, if you take American History, you might learn something about it =)

So, have a great weekend everyone and stay safe. Don’t do something stupid and remember… be nice ^_^

Getting Used to It

Posted in Friends, Hobby, Work on June 29, 2009 by Matthew

It’s been more than two weeks since I had to wake up at 7:30 AM every morning of the weekdays and I can say I’m happily alright with that time. Stating this, I have to also sleep by 1 AM at latest in order to fulfill this early awakening. I’ve been able to make myself go to sleep by 12:30 AM all but one time and that one time was a tad bit late and I did pay for it… the next day, I was tired by 11 PM. In any case, it looks like my schedule will permit me to stay up until 12:30 and then it’s bed time for me… until I get used to the time and able to sleep in shorter hours.

Work’s been great and I continue to enjoy my job there. There are times when it’s challenging and there are times when it’s relaxing. I think it’s the same with most places. I’ll be getting my first pay this Friday. Hooray for working for money!

Chelsea came down to Tampa this week and it was a great weekend. Yup, I enjoyed it very much and she did too. Saw The Proposal on Saturday and Transformers on Sunday. Both are good movies and I recommend them. I would even recommend The Proposal over Year One and I personally find The Proposal having more comedy moments than Year One… and Year One is suppose to be a comedy show O_o Unacceptable. I can’t say I’m all pleased with Transformers, but I would say I definitely enjoyed it a little more than the first one (which I bought just to watch).

All in all, two weeks of fun and next week, I’ll be in Tampa and Chelsea will be visiting some family in Kentucky. Too bad I can’t go >_< Well, next week would more than likely be another cleaning weekend. Until then, I’m going to relax. Spider-Man: Web of Shadows died on me while saving and froze my PS3. Time to try it again.

Final Fantasy XII

Posted in Games, Hobby, Technology on June 1, 2009 by Matthew

Today I started my first opening game of Final Fantasy XII. I bought it when it first came out, I pre-ordered the special edition. I ripped open the plastic around it, looked through the book when I first got it, but I never put the disc into my PlayStation at all. Today, I opened the case, the new CD that has never been put into my console and played the game.

Pretty fun, can’t say it’s the best start to an RPG game, but the story sure got me through the beginning. Pretty long intro if I don’t say myself, but I actually prefer FF IX’s game play in the beginning better. Maybe because of the battle system, but what really bothers me is the right analog control, viewing the world around >_< They should have let me pick whether I want it inverted or not. It’s not natural for me to push the right analog stick to the right and the camera goes to the left. It’s like literally pushing the camera’s back-end to the right. I remember playing FF VII, when I push the R1 button, the camera moves to the right. That was the one thing that bogged me down running into walls or viewing the top part of Vaan’s head when I’m walking beside a wall.

I think I’ll try to finish this game. On a different note, but on the same topic, I beat Naruto: Path of the Ninja for the DS. Cheeky bought the game for me a long time ago and I just never play it that much. I finally finished it and I can say I feel satisfied finishing another RPG game. There isnt’ many games that I actually finish. Yuki bought me Nartuo: Path of the Ninja 2 and that would be my next RPG game on the DS that I’ll finish before getting Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor.

Man, E3 definitely showed a lot new things for Xbox360. If E3 continues to show great stuff, I can’t wait for what Nintendo and Sony have intall. I don’t care what people say about how Nintendo and Sony can’t show anything good after this, because I have faith in game developers challenging each other. If they have nothing better to show, I would say I’m very dissapointed.

The Simpler Times

Posted in Hobby, Random on October 6, 2008 by Matthew

Sometimes, I just wish I’m back at the simpler times.

This webcomic definitelyl depicts it to be really simple… by playing video games ^_^

Oh, and of course not forgetting the fact that some people’s comment just sounds stupid, even my own at times, so here’s a way we can fight that… with VIRUS!
