Understanding People
As individuals, many of us tend to be happy where we are, what we think, what we know, or even what we do. Being open-minded doesn’t mean we don’t have safety zones we would rather stay in, it just means understanding or trying out the new things. But today, I’ve learned several things as far as understanding generations goes.
My generation and younger ones either:
1) Doesn’t care or
2) Like it
I’m talking about showing everything online. There’s a comfort zone about generations that grew up with Internet that make them believe the internet is either a safe haven or just are really stupid about it. Myspace and Facebook are perhaps the easiest example that many people would understand.
Uploading contents online sure is easy and easy to share with friends too, but what people do not understand is that what you put online can still be seen by certain people or some, even if you put your entire site as private. Here’s a way, your friends might not put theirs as private, and the picture of you two partying together and you totally wasted wasn’t hidden from everyone. What you put online that you know could get you fired should be something you keep private and not ever putting online. Of course if your work is about partying, then that’s different. Sharing everything isn’t a good thing.
If you’re younger, and rely on your parents, and you have images that you know your parents do not approve of, then they shouldn’t be uploaded for anyone (including your friends) to be seen too, cause friends can become enemies and they can share a certain picture with your parents. Uh-oh, the backstabbing process of heartache and friendships. Anyway, here’s the core of what’s suppose to be entered…
Younger generations think they’re open-minded because they don’t mind these things while they think the older generations are closed-minded because they see these as bad, but in fact that’s not how open-mindedness should be defined or should be used. This is the case of the people’s common sense, lack of knowledge, and just plain stupid. Anyway, there are older generations who welcome the Net Generations, but Net Generations have to be taught properness, or etiquettes.
The internet is a big world, bigger than the Earth itself, but here’s the problem, everyone could have the equal amount of information to share or to take from the internet. It’s a big responsibility. To quote a famous saying, “With great power comes great responsibility.” The internet is a powerful tool, but the kind of people who are using it, well, it’s sad to say there’s no way world peace could happen this way.
