A rare hobby of mine. When you hear me talking about reading (other than required reading), or even mentioning reading (outside of class reasons), or when you actually see me reading (besides mangas (graphic novels), game magazines, or anime magazines), there’s a good reason I should be considered sick >_<
Today Barnes & Noble entertained me while I waited. Not the online site, the physical location itself. Usually you would see me running to GameStop/EB Games or FYE when I’m at the mall, but today, I ventured first into the Poetry section. Now there’s a stopper for you. If you see me at a poetry section, you know I’m thinking about deep thoughts, probably about life… or maybe it’s as deep fry as food =D Yum! The thought of getting Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey is out of this world in itself, but getting it… boy would I have set the record ever. The sad news is, I didn’t get the books. At the moment, my budget was less than 10 dollars. Can’t say it didn’t interest me, considering I took AP Latin in high school and had to translate Virgil’s Aeneid during class; from Latin to English no less. Boy was that a difficult class.
I ended up going to the Christian Fiction section and took upon myself to find the one writer who wrote a book I finished reading in 2 days. Boy was that a record. Myers was his name, and the first book I ever picked up from him set the record time for me in reading. Finishing a book in 2 days. What the title was has escaped my memory, but I’m pretty sure it’s him, cause his name was familiar. I bought Eli. What if Jesus came back in our days, how would he be like and who would he be? Now that’s something I couldn’t pass up as far as a fiction book goes. On the opposite isle was the Philosophy books section. Now that sparked my curiosity. I’ve always loved philosophy, just never dove deep within it.
The idea that everything we do was once a philosophical question. Well, needless to say, I sat there for a good 30 minutes just flipping through books, reading a little here and there about Aristotle, Socrates, Plato, Descartes, Karl Marx, and a few others. I don’t know much, in fact, I would even vouch for not knowing anything at all compared to the geniuses out there, but here’s a question from a book that brought my attention. These people weren’t known for their mundaneness (if you would accept that as a word). They were known for their insanity. Whether it’s a little or a lot. At this point of life, there isn’t many insane people anymore, or if there are, society tells them to chill with a chill-pill and let everything become normal where it’s accepted to be norm. Jesus was no pushover. It’s the fact that he’s insane in people’s eyes that made him different and to some, unaccepted.
I would like to think myself of someone with a little insanity, but when it comes down to it, I’m still low in par with these geniuses, and with their insanity, that’s how they’re known. If they lived a regular life, I doubt they’d be known as great philosophers. Steven Spielberg cannot be called normal, he comes out with amazing stuff. Robert Redford is considered a genius in cinematography. Nobuo Uematsu for his genius in composing music, especially for the Final Fantasy series (personal thanks to Nobuo Uematsu, just because I love the FF series ^_^) I wouldn’t put all of these people in the same category of insanity, but I’m sure at some point, they had to do something to get themselves out there and famous. I would like to think myself as… well, I don’t know, but until I find out what kinds of insanity there are out there that is good for the society and mankind, then I’ll let you know.
In my humble opinion, around the age that I’m in is really the beginning of living life to the fullest in the independent world. So, I’m considering myself a very blessed fellow in having such a good life. Knowledge is a good ammo to have, but I believe the something that is worth more is the belief one have in oneself. My strength and willingness to achieve higher level of achievements is in the heart to belief in myself, conquering obstacles. I belief everyone has in him/herself to overcome barriers. What really stops that person it that person’s self. Motivation is a harsh thing, but I hope everyone finds motivations somewhere.
Here’s a quickie that I thought up quite some time ago when I was building my website:
Creativity comes from inspiration,
but without perseverance, we would never find inspiration.
Thus, there is no creativity.
A word many dislike, perseverance. A word that shows a lot more of a person’s character and integrity than just an outer shell facade. I would like to always believe to be true, that anyone can achieve creativity, but it is no less work than working on a job itself to some. For me, studying has been difficult ever since I fell (maybe it’s a true story, than again, it might all be made up) from the stairs (I’ll let your imagination take place as far as how many flight of stairs I fell from, if you believed I fell), but it never stopped me from taking the extra time to reread a sentence to understand what it means as far as sentence structure goes or how it relates to what I’m trying to get out of it. Sure I’m slow at reading, but it still comes back to reading in general… I don’t do it often.
A rare hobby for a rare person (I would like to think).
