Sleep Good

Posted in Art, College on February 28, 2008 by Matthew

Sleep sedates me, especially one from 6:30PM – 12:00 midnight. I’m about to hit the pillow again soon; the lack of sleep didn’t help much at all. My Writing for DM (digital media) midterm was perhaps the most disappointing midterm I’ve had in all my years of studying. That might be an exaggerated statement there, but I can vow that it is definitely the most disappointing midterm in my college life. So, boo to you midterm, I will cast you aside like a useless piece of paper, unless I miraculously get an amazing grade.

Enough about college. As promised, pumpkin pictures:

First Carve
I was proud of my first carve.

Spongebob ScaryPants

… I might get hit for displaying her carve.

I don’t think I should compare, because it was suppose to be fun, and we had fun. In the end, we had to nail a part of Spongebob ScaryPants back with a nail. It is for Halloween after all, where’s the scary part if it was a perfect Spongbob?

Random Facts #3

$54 Million lawsuit because business people do not know how to be responsible for one simple task, keeping a laptop safe. I’m happy to see adults reminding themselves about responsibility, in a way, getting the attention away from us younger adults.

Ever heard of SquareTrade? I haven’t, but I came across an interesting article for you gamers out there who always stand up for your personal belief in your one console. Bask in your defeat (or glory for the other parties).

I know what I won’t be getting. For you fans out there, enjoy.

Do you know what cloud streets are? Have you seen them?

When was the last time you told a secret and still kept it a secret?

Now this is a product to be reckon with. It’s a way into the future.

I did say my next post (this post) will be one to show off my carving skill on the pumpkin. I suppose I lied. I have been up for the pass… 21 hours with 4 hours of sleep before that.

This is what I do in the late hours, reading random things that are not so pointless. I’ve been working on my audio editing project and boy do I have to say I put in a lot of hours into it. Time for some rest before going back to study for a test at 10:30AM. Did I mention my class schedule tomorrow is filled until 6PM? So much for no sleep at all tonight. I reckon I’ll be sleeping as soon as I enter my room after class. By the way, it’s 6:30AM if you were wondering.

My Shelf

Posted in Hobby, Personal on February 26, 2008 by Matthew

I’m taking a break from sound editing project. Unless you can seat hours upon hours listening to the same thing over and over and over again (no exaggeration), sound engineer is not what you want to do. Same goes for video editing, except it’s not as crazy as sound editing. I think the sound is more detailed than what a lot of people realized. I so happen to watch a little of the Oscar the other day and Bourne Ultimatum was the winner for both sound mixing and editing. Ever since this class, I’ve found more respect with the engineers mixing and editing sounds. Hours upon hours just sitting there listening to the same thing. I bet they could say every line to the movie… and more if they wanted to. I wouldn’t mind if I were to be in a team with other people, but if I did it alone, which is what I’m doing now (and it’s all elementary stuff now), I would go insane (not saying that I’m not already insane, but anymore and I might be a little nutty).

I don’t think I ever mentioned it during my birthday, but I got a shelf for my birthday (Thank you Philip and Alisa). The dates on the pictures are off. For some reason, my camera decided not to update the date and stayed that way for about 2 months. That’s about how long I haven’t used my camera… I think. Anyway, this is a story about my shelf and how it’s finally come to pass that I own one ^_^

Shelf Box
This is the box. I’m showing off the box, not the poster in the back =P

Empty Space
This is where I’ve decided to put the shelf ^_^

Building Time
It’s time to build. Are those my smelly Converse? Sorry

Shelf Frame
I was tired by the time I got this much done.
I think it took me about 30 minutes. Maybe 45 X_x

Back of Shelf Nailing the Dots
The back was the easiest part. Here’s are two pictures.
Holes to show where you should hammer your nails. Hooray!

Empty Shelf
Finally, it’s up and ready to be used… but what should I put?

Shelf
That’s a stupid question… these of course ^_^

PJ shirt and torn Jeans
…and for those of you who knows what’s on display O_o
The top’s my ACS Pendidikan Jasmani (Physical Education) shirt
The bottom’s my first favorite jeans (Carpenter Tommy Jeans)

So, I promised my girl I wouldn’t be staying up writing for my blog, but in order to continue the night of sound editing project, I have to take breaks and do something that I know will make me more awake than before ^_^ Posting entries for my blog of course. Well, the next post will definitely go back in time… back to Halloween… woooo. If there was some way of typing those so that they look scary, like the fonts in Scooby-doo.

Some other presents include a monkey plush and an awesome painting of things that I like by my girl. She definitely went overboard with it, but I love it very much ^_^

Well, I’ve got to get back to my project. Looking forward to show you my carving skills in the next entry. God bless!

Reading…

Posted in Hobby, Life, Personal on February 23, 2008 by Matthew

A rare hobby of mine. When you hear me talking about reading (other than required reading), or even mentioning reading (outside of class reasons), or when you actually see me reading (besides mangas (graphic novels), game magazines, or anime magazines), there’s a good reason I should be considered sick >_<

Today Barnes & Noble entertained me while I waited. Not the online site, the physical location itself. Usually you would see me running to GameStop/EB Games or FYE when I’m at the mall, but today, I ventured first into the Poetry section. Now there’s a stopper for you. If you see me at a poetry section, you know I’m thinking about deep thoughts, probably about life… or maybe it’s as deep fry as food =D Yum! The thought of getting Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey is out of this world in itself, but getting it… boy would I have set the record ever. The sad news is, I didn’t get the books. At the moment, my budget was less than 10 dollars. Can’t say it didn’t interest me, considering I took AP Latin in high school and had to translate Virgil’s Aeneid during class; from Latin to English no less. Boy was that a difficult class.

I ended up going to the Christian Fiction section and took upon myself to find the one writer who wrote a book I finished reading in 2 days. Boy was that a record. Myers was his name, and the first book I ever picked up from him set the record time for me in reading. Finishing a book in 2 days. What the title was has escaped my memory, but I’m pretty sure it’s him, cause his name was familiar. I bought Eli. What if Jesus came back in our days, how would he be like and who would he be? Now that’s something I couldn’t pass up as far as a fiction book goes. On the opposite isle was the Philosophy books section. Now that sparked my curiosity. I’ve always loved philosophy, just never dove deep within it.

The idea that everything we do was once a philosophical question. Well, needless to say, I sat there for a good 30 minutes just flipping through books, reading a little here and there about Aristotle, Socrates, Plato, Descartes, Karl Marx, and a few others. I don’t know much, in fact, I would even vouch for not knowing anything at all compared to the geniuses out there, but here’s a question from a book that brought my attention. These people weren’t known for their mundaneness (if you would accept that as a word). They were known for their insanity. Whether it’s a little or a lot. At this point of life, there isn’t many insane people anymore, or if there are, society tells them to chill with a chill-pill and let everything become normal where it’s accepted to be norm. Jesus was no pushover. It’s the fact that he’s insane in people’s eyes that made him different and to some, unaccepted.

I would like to think myself of someone with a little insanity, but when it comes down to it, I’m still low in par with these geniuses, and with their insanity, that’s how they’re known. If they lived a regular life, I doubt they’d be known as great philosophers. Steven Spielberg cannot be called normal, he comes out with amazing stuff. Robert Redford is considered a genius in cinematography. Nobuo Uematsu for his genius in composing music, especially for the Final Fantasy series (personal thanks to Nobuo Uematsu, just because I love the FF series ^_^) I wouldn’t put all of these people in the same category of insanity, but I’m sure at some point, they had to do something to get themselves out there and famous. I would like to think myself as… well, I don’t know, but until I find out what kinds of insanity there are out there that is good for the society and mankind, then I’ll let you know.

In my humble opinion, around the age that I’m in is really the beginning of living life to the fullest in the independent world. So, I’m considering myself a very blessed fellow in having such a good life. Knowledge is a good ammo to have, but I believe the something that is worth more is the belief one have in oneself. My strength and willingness to achieve higher level of achievements is in the heart to belief in myself, conquering obstacles. I belief everyone has in him/herself to overcome barriers. What really stops that person it that person’s self. Motivation is a harsh thing, but I hope everyone finds motivations somewhere.

Here’s a quickie that I thought up quite some time ago when I was building my website:

Creativity comes from inspiration,
but without perseverance, we would never find inspiration.
Thus, there is no creativity.

A word many dislike, perseverance. A word that shows a lot more of a person’s character and integrity than just an outer shell facade. I would like to always believe to be true, that anyone can achieve creativity, but it is no less work than working on a job itself to some. For me, studying has been difficult ever since I fell (maybe it’s a true story, than again, it might all be made up) from the stairs (I’ll let your imagination take place as far as how many flight of stairs I fell from, if you believed I fell), but it never stopped me from taking the extra time to reread a sentence to understand what it means as far as sentence structure goes or how it relates to what I’m trying to get out of it. Sure I’m slow at reading, but it still comes back to reading in general… I don’t do it often.

A rare hobby for a rare person (I would like to think).

What I Want is What I Like

Posted in College, Concerts, Life, Technology on February 22, 2008 by Matthew

There are several jobs that I would like to do and they include:

  1.  QA Tester. Being a game tester would be amazing. I would love that job, even if it doesn’t pay much, I know I’ll be set as far as fun level goes. Maybe getting carpal tunnel >_<
  2. Graphics/Web Designer. Either one would be amazing or both together would be awesome too. That’s currently what I’m going to college for; of course also to expand my horizon in life ^_^
  3. Teacher. Why? Because I get to transfer my knowledge and wisdom to the younger ones. I enjoy helping people out and being a part of someone’s life. This also actually means I’m pretty nosy =P
  4. Psychiatrist. Did I mention I enjoy helping people? Everyone has their mental breakdown every now and then, even I do. What I like the most though is being able to see from so many point of views and still help people in life.

I do have some others, but at the moment, those are the 4 that I think about more than others. I wouldn’t mind doing something relating to games either. No, I’m not a programmer, which is what mostly games are involved, but I have some experience in thinking like that. If this happen, then do that. Recursive isn’t a way you write, it’s a term in programming and etc. ^_^ I feel pretty smart for not being a programmer or studying computer science.

So, I went to Rascal Flatts concert last night. Any reader a big fan of theirs? My personal opinion, they’re really good, but what really impressed me more was the solos. I personally loved the guitar solo more than the other two, but the violin was right behind it. It would be super impressive if he played a small part from Devil Went Down to Georgia. Finally, the drums opened up for the encore ^_^ very impressive, and he’s a local from Orlando. He did well in entertaining his fellow Orlando-mites. That’s my small spill for Rascal Flatts.

On a sadder side, my external HD isn’t mounting to my Mac anymore for some reason. No one online seem to have that problem. It’s a Maxtor OneTouch III Mini Edition 160Gb. My Disk Utility won’t even read it. I even reformat it on my Windows PC (XP) and thought at least it would read it or mount, but it wouldn’t even do that. If anyone so happens to come across this problem and found a solution, please please do tell me. I’m pretty upset considering the external is less than 1 year old.

Looks like I just put in a bunch of topics when I was thinking of putting one. Oh well, enjoy reading ^_^
